A very dramatic design uses hand cut textured brass leaves and hand wrapped metal “stems” to support the “floating” flowers. The large lily flowers are stamped with texture with curving petals. It originates from Belgium and dates towards 1850.
The body of the crown consists of a cast bronze and brass which is heavily gilded. The sprays of flowers are set with clear, faceted glass stones. The band is set across the front also is adorned with identical stones. There is a maker’s mark (square) and the model number 856 on the left side of the outer band. MAKER’s marks are rare and indicate that the crown was made for a particular statue, eith for a home or church altar.
The diadem crown is in very good condition with a brilliant gilded patina. There are a few slight irregular bends to the back band as is typical with crowns that are fit to a particular statue. There are 4 missing stones along the left bottom. It is a heavy piece despite it's light appearance. It measures: 3 1/2" tall at the mid center front, 6 1/2” diameter when set in the last notch. (5 notches of adjustment). The circumference is 20 1/2”.
