Christ Child Filagree Antique Santos Crown

An authentic antique (over 100 years old), it is unusual in that the glass stones are in pink and white. This "couronne royale" would have graced the head of a Christ Child Santos. It originates from the south of France and dates circa 1899. It is bezel set with 44 faceted clear and rose glass stones.

The filagree form is a cast work consisting of five "arms" which attach at the bottom band and under mount beneath the brass/bronze globe. Each arm has a wide double scroll which forms a stylized heart shape at the center. These are each set with three rose pink glass stones and four clear glass stones. There is a fleur de lis mounted between the bands; each set with a central rose pink glass stone.

The bottom band has ten rosettes (set with alternating clear and rose pink glass stones) which are interlaced by delicate filagree. The original mounting bar underneath still remains. The globe at the top is adorned with a Maltese cross (set with a central rose pink glass stone).

It measures 5 1/2" tall, 8 7/8" circumference at the bottom band, 13" circumference at the widest point of the bands, 2 5/8" in diameter bottom band. It is in very good antique condition; all original stones, a slight upward irregular bend at the top of the band corresponding with the left back arm of the cross. There are irregular bends at the band which is typical with an antique crown which was fit to a specific statue.
