Extraordinary Sacred Heart Antique Priest Vestment

The magnificent central applique medallion portrays both the pierced heart of Jesus and the heart of Jesus with a crown of thorns. This French rose color chasuble vestment would have only worn twice in the liturgical year, during the third Sunday of Advent, and the fourth Sunday of Lent. (These colors are worn on these days to show the joy and love in Christ).

This vestment is an authentic antique, dating circa 1900. It originates from the Bourgogne region of France.
The rose side panels front and back of are fine "Lyon" silk with a beautiful repeating rosette pattern. The panels which make up the cross are of a plush crimson silk cotton velvet. Wide gilt metallic brocade scalloped braid frames the cross.

The back is lined with a pale rose cotton fabric (faded in places from storage). A 1/2" gilt metallic damask braid edges all outside borders. It measures: (front panel 51 1/2" x 26". The medallion measures 7 1/4" x 7". It is in amazing condition for an antique vestment: slight darkening along gilt braid at edges. Some light fading in spots to the rose damask.
