*"*This item has SOLD **A glorious religious textile example from the Napoleon III Era, it is richly embellished with silver metallic applique work. It originates from the south of France and dates towards 1860.
The velvet is from the factories of Lyon and has a luxurious texture and touch. The entire stole has an outer scalloped silver metallic braid. The bottom panels are entirely filled with silver metallic appliques, silver metallic braid and silver paillettes (sequins). There is a row of silver metallic bouillon at the bottom edge (2"). The silver metallic applique scrolls continue up to the top third of the stole. There is a metal braid cross at the center neck. The back is lined with fine black silk.
It measures: 80: long, the bottom panels 9" wide, the narrow width 4" tapering to 2 1/2". It is in very good antique condition; slight wear to velvet edges, wear to edges (fraying) of black silk. The silver metallic appliques are in very good condition as is the fringe.
Religious textiles of this period have such a lavish appearance. The quality of the fabrics and trims just cannot be found in today's textiles.
