Antique French Religious Devotion Book "Nouvelles Heures"

An exquisite devotional book for ladies, the text is augmented by four full page engravings. It was published (in Paris) in 1821 and has a table of "fetes" and "temps" from 1821 to 1847.
This genre of book of a small size, to fit into a lady's pocket.

The binding is of red "ribbed" grain Morocco leather. The front and back cover boards have a fancy hand applied, gilt tooled border of quivers and rosettes. The spine has compartments formed by gilt tooled lines; the title is in the second compartment. The page edges are gilded, the inner endpapers are marbled.

The text is presented in Latin and French. It includes readings/devotions for: Pentacost, Sainte Trinite, Sainte Sacrement, Epiphane, Assomption de la Vierge and Prieres. The engravings are powerful images which retain all detail and depth of dark ink.

The binding measure: 4 7/8" x 3" x 1". The book is in a used antique condition (200 years old this year!): The front cover board has split along the bottom portion connected to the spine (2"); at some point it has had glue applied but the split is still slightly open. The coverboard is still attached on the top 2/3. There is wear to the corners typical with use and age. The Morocco leather had darkened and faded (on spine) with time. The gilt on the spine is worn.
