Antique Italian Flaming Sacred Heart

A very precious sacred heart, it dates c. 1890 and originates from Parma Italy. The monogram, PGR, stands for "per grazia ricevuta", (for grace received). It would have been purchased and given in thanksgiving to be displayed within an Italian parish.

It is of cast bronze/brass which has been heavily gilded. The monogram and the top adornment are of copper/brass. It is a solid piece which does not open (like the French clamshell ex voto).

The top adornment is a torch/flame with two cascading festoons (leaves and roses). It is attached with silver solder. The initials are in script, also attached with silver solder. There is a cast hook on the back of the flame for placing a chain or ribbon. It measures: 3" x 2 1/2".

It is in solid antique condition: light tarnish and wear to the back (where is rested against a wall).
