ExtrordinaryAntique French Religious Santos Crown

Of a quality rarely seen, this large authentic antique crown would have adorned a Santos statue of the Infant Jesus. I originates from a fine collection in the south of France and dates from the Napoleon III period, 1860.

It is a cast metal form made of a mix of bronze and brass. The ten “quatrefoil” or rosettes are an ancient symbol for Jesus ( used often in Gothic architecture). The rosettes stand 1 3/4” tall. The adornments are large central stones which are are in ruby, emerald and clear faceted glass stones; each rosette is accented by a small crown at the top using clear glass stones.

The bottom band is set with 46 clear glass stones. The band closure has three adjustment slots as well as four tiny openings for threading wire ( to adjust and secure the crown to the statue). There is an arched mounting bar at the center with an opening to pin the crown into the head of the statue.

The diameter is 4 1/2 inches. the circumference is 14 1/2 inches. The height is 2 1/2 inches. It is in superb condition in consideration of age and use.
