Sacrosanctum Concilium Antique French Gilded Brass Crown of Thorns Sacred Heart Ex Voto

A rare find (we have only seen a few), it has a beautifully detailed crown of thorns which encircles the initials for " Sacrosanctum concilium" and or "Sacre Coeur" It originates from a fine French collection and dates towards 1890.

The gilded brass heart box has a wonderfully rounded shape. The entire face holds the engraved design; the initials "SC" encircled by a crown of thorns. The engraving is hand tooled using tiny horizontal marks and dots for the crown, and horizontal marks applied in a zig zag fashion for the initials. The beautifully shaped flame is delicately grooved. There is a mounted ring at the back for threading a chain.

It measures: 2 3/4" x 1 1/2" x 3/4" thick. It has a brilliant patina with very slight wear to the patina on the back half.

Keepers of faith, the French sacred heart box served to hold handwritten prayers, intentions, hope and thanksgiving. They are precious objects which served a very special place in history.
