Spectacular Antique French Bejeweled Santos Religious Crown

This authentic antique crown was found within an important collection near Tarascon, in the south of France. It would have graced a medium sized Virgin Mary in a small village parish.

The structure is of a mix of bronze and brass which has been cast from a mold. Gilt leaf was applied to the metal form, imparting a rich and important appearance. Textured half globes, lattice work (hand etched with filagree) form the top piece. The crown slants forward 40 degrees which gives an important regard when it is viewed from an upward angle. Two clear glass stones and a large central green glass stone are accented by smaller glass stones. The bottom band is set with 19 clear glass stones.

The diameter of the band is 4” and it can be adjusted to 3 1/2” via the slots at the end. The circumference is 13”. the height at the center is 2 1/2”. It is in sound and good condition: the gilt patina is still brilliant, The 62 glass stones are all present.
