***THIS ITEM HAS SOLD***The heavy gilding on this voto gives a rich background for the beautifully hand tooled engraving. The sacred heart originates from the south of France and dates towards 1890.

The central "M" with the cross rising is heavily engraved with the use of a very fine tool which imparted many thin vertical lines The edges of the initial and cross were tooled with small dashes and the combination of the very delicate marks gives a rich, satin appearance. The leaves are tooled in the same manner and they form a interlacing cross at the bottom. The heart opens to reveal a heavily gilded center (each half is marked with the Roman numeral, III, which assures that the halves belong together). The outer bottom edge is stamped, "depose", which is a 19th century patent mark.

It measures: 4 1/4" high and 2 1/2" wide. It is in very good antique condition: a slight few indentations to the back as is typical with age and use, darkening and spotting to patina. The hinge works properly.

It is an exquisite, authentic sacred heart voto with a large presence and a luminous patina.
